5203 Back-EMF DCC Decoder
5203 Introduction & Function Characteristics

5203 Back-EMF DCC Decoder The DXDC 5203 series Back-EMF DCC Decoder is suitable for all HO scale locomotives.
The product supports the 14-step, 28-step and 128-step speed control of the DCC protocol. The lights of the locomotive are operated by 4 function outputs. Two function outputs of them provide 8 lighting effects including the dimmer, the warning effect, the blinking by speed effect, the random blinking effect, the strobe light effect and the 3 fixed-frequency blinking effects. By adjusting the CV settings, more than thousands of lighting effects are provided. The light output and the motor circuit are coming with over-load protection to reduce users’ loses caused by accidents.
Suitable locomotive types Suitable locomotive types The DXDC 5203 series Back-EMF Decoder is suitable for the HO scale locomotives. The Decoder is fully compatible with the NMRA/DCC standard and under the control of varies DCC digital command control system compatible with DCC standard. Operation using a conventional DC controller is possible without any problem.
Speed control There are two speed control settings: the speed curve setting and the speed table setting.
Speed curve setting(Factory Default): The speed curve setting is to set the starting voltage in CV2, the maximum voltage in CV5 and the medium point voltage in CV6. In order to explain more, the speed step and the speed value are represented with a curve in an axis graph. In the following 4 figures (from 5-1 to 5-4), the horizontal line represents the speed step while the vertical line represents the speed value. The speed of locomotive is divided into 28 steps in the speed step line. Thus each step represents one speed step and the value is from 0 to 28. The speed value is the current speed of the locomotive and the value is from 0 to 255. The 14-step and the 128-step settings are with the similar curves. The 14-stepe speed setting is with 14 as the maximum value and 7 as the middle vale while 128 and 63 for the 128-step speed setting.
DC control Operation using a conventional DC controller is possible without any problem. You can running a locomotive that already install the DXDC 5303 series DCC sound decoder on DC track. DC environment is not support Back-EMF function and light effect. The sound effects are only support the effects agreed by the factory.
Over load protection The DXDC 5203 series Back-EMF DCC Decoder provides the over load protection to keep safe of light output and locomotive.
When the light output is over 500mA, the light output function will be protected by closing all light outputs. All lights will not be light up until restarting the control box.
When the locomotive current is over1A (the larger the locomotive loading is, the larger the current is), the locomotive output will be protected by stopping the running of the locomotive and flashing the FL/RL. The locomotive will not run again and the FL/RL will keep flashing until restarting the control box.
The 5203 series Back-EMF DCC Decoder is equipped with CV53 for you to adjust the current to protect the over-load situation.
